Buyer Job Description (Functional Role)
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and
delivery targets
Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply
problems which may impact on business operation
Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes
and new projects and activities
Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity
Work closely with others in the procurement function and review opportunities for continuous
improvement and business improvements
Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and
wellbeing of self, staff and visitors
Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review
opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools
and methods
Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules, validate received purchase request
Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier
relationships
Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures and process flow,
DTPs and other relevant documentation guidance during supplier negotiations

Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation

Link and leverage with other departments to ensure continuous supply of required goods and
materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business
operations
Project coordination
Be familiar with market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers for the managed
category
Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible
Deliver briefs, updates and reports as and when required
Identify ideas, appropriate project within portfolio responsibility on how to deliver savings,
create resourcing, benchmarking projects, conduct market analysts supported by SWOT analysis
Contract management: be actively present in each phase of contract lifetime: pre-sign phase,
sign off, and post sign of. monitor, execute commercial, negotiate commercial aspects of
contract: prices, payment terms, terms and conditions, terms of business with suppliers and
review opportunities.
